Have you heard of Elisabeth Badinter's new book The Conflict:  How Modern Motherhood Undermines the Status of Women? It has touched a nerve.  The premise of the author's argument is that motherhood today (especially the promotion of breastfeeding) detrimentally stifles women's personal and professional lives. The Conflict has invited all sorts of passionate discussion from all sides of the issue.

My favorite response thus far is from a working, breastfeeding, co-sleeping mom and can be found here.

For other responses (because we're nothing if not inclusive of all information so as moms, dads and caretakers can make informed decisions) see Bloomberg Businessweek Book Reviewan article from the Slate conversation series in support of Badinter, and The New York Times Parenting blog.

Finally, from Badinter herself, a response from the criticism she has received regarding her thesis, is an article from the Washington Post.  See here.

Happy reading!
